After reading it I kinda had second thoughts about how cool the concept of immortality really is. I prefer there to be a start, middle and end to this thing called life. Let’s hope they never figure this out, or we are going to be stuck with the (INSERT LEAST FAV GENERATION HERE TAG)  forever. I can even extend this to my own GenX group…who the hell wants all of these people living forever? Not me.

Have you ever noticed how self absorbed all of the “back in my day” bullshit really is? You may need a wakeup call gramps (myself included) cause:

1) your music likely sucks to someone who is 10, 20 or even 30 years younger than you…

2) things were never “better in my day”..I call bullshit

3) “kids these days” are not any worse or better than they were when you were a kid. Get over it.

Life moves on and we all become redundant, the trick is to not inflict your nostalgia on anyone younger than you. I don’t care about the boomer and I don’t think my kids should care about my crap.

PS – I can’t resist a shot at the boomers – you know why everyone under the age of 40 hates you guys? Part of it is envy because we are unlikely to exceed your career opportunities or have a better life. I’ve gotten used to that. What really gets me is that you are a bunch of hypocrites (Yes I am slandering an entire generation based on a limited data set and personal bias…sue me). You bought into the 60′s crap about saving the world from your parents/free love/etc and you turned into diminished versions of your parents. I respect my grandparent’s generation..they did something like save the world from Nazi’s. I’d accept criticism from boomers if they could ever figure out how to stop starting at their navel.

I watched the “real” Star Wars movies with my kids on the weekend (the “new” ones don’t count), and couldn’t help but notice how my 6 and 4yr old son’s immediately starting labelling good guys and bad guys. They enjoyed the movies and like the fact that the “good” guys won. Call me perverse, but I kinda get sick of these simplistic movies that package everything so neatly. I must admit I enjoyed talking to my 4yr old and asking him why he thought Darth Vader was bad…he looked at me like I was a raving idiot. “Darth Vader is bad because of his suit” was his response, but clearly his look of disdain was the real response to me.

Next time you watch these movies think about all the poor sub-contracter electricians who were murdered when the “Rebels/Freedom fighters/Terrorists” blew up the first and second deathstar and all of the Sith who were ethnically cleansed by the “Good” guy Jedi over the years.

I know who I’m cheering for next time I watch the movies.
